Animal cruelty charges as vandals kill school pets

Just after 1 a.m. on Tuesday January 26, 2010, Robert Little Public School was broken into and vadalized. The school was torn apart. Computers on the ground, rooms destroyed, and a fish tank knocked over killing about 10 fish. After the vandals triggered a security alarm, a guard found two men just outside the school. The guard, using an “authoritative voice,” was able to detain the two suspects and call police. Two 19-year-old men, Christopher Wilkinson, and Robert Tressel, both from Acton, are facing charges of break and enter and mischief. The pair are also charged with cruelty to animals.

Why would peple do such things? Is it a grudge on a teacher or the school itself. Nobody knows but the vandals should not only be charged of break and enter, mischief, and cruelty to animals but should at least serve some time as well. Now the 400 + students will have to resume school somewhere else because some brainless punks decided to destroy a school.

Construction workers at high risk

Many construction workers seem to be dying lately on the job sites. Since 1990, 405 construction workers have lost their lives and it seems to be increasing. Why is this, why are so many construction workers dying, workers with families, why? Union leaders and labour activists believe a lack of proper safety inspections and oversight on the job, and outdated legislation which no longer reflects the reality of modern construction sites, means workers' lives are hanging in the balance.

I agree that a lack of proper safety inspections and overseight of the job sites is one of the many causes that leads to the death of so many construction workers. I have always been told by my parents, "Safety first." This should also apply for construction sites. If a worker dies from something falling on them, it is a clear example that proper safety procedures are not being taken and that the effort is not being made to ensure that these workers lives are not in harms way.
